Comrade Jack McDermott currently serves on the VFW National Home for Children’s Program and Development Committees.
For the past five years, McDermott has been an active member of the Grand of Florida Cooties and traveled to the National Home to help put on the “Cootie Christmas” event.
A Vietnam veteran, McDermott served with the U.S. Navy and joined the VFW in 1977. A Life Member of VFW Post 9610, McDermott has held numerous elected and appointed positions in the VFW, including the Department of Florida Commander in 2007-2008.
McDermott served on the National Youth Committee and as the Department Youth Activities Chairman before being elected as the State Surgeon.
McDermott sits on the Board for the VFW Home in Ft. McCoy, Florida -- a retirement home fully funded by the Department of Florida. In addition, he is a Board Member for Vets Helping Today’s Returning Heroes, a non-profit organization providing guide dogs and innovative technologies for service personnel returning home with visual impairments or other special needs.
McDermott has been married for more than 30 years and has two children and three grandchildren.
