Comrade Roy Ator is The VFW National Home for Children’s Chairman of the Facilities Committee, and serves on the Policy and Bylaws and Public Relations/ Communications Committees. Previously, he was elected to the Executive Committee as both a member and alternate member. He has also served on the Finance and Development Committees.

 

A Navy veteran, Ator served with the U.S. Navy until his retirement in 1973.  As a member of VFW Post #6873, Ator has held numerous elected and appointed positions in the VFW and Military Order of the Cootie at both local and district levels.  

 

Ator served as Grand Commander of Texas from 2002-2003, Grand Quartermaster from 1994-2000, MOC Supreme 14th District Judge Advocate from 2000-2002 and as Department National Home Chairman from 2003 to 2005.  He also served as VFW National Youth Development, Scholarship and Recognition Committee member in 2003-2004 and Grand VAVS Representative to DVAMC Waco. 

 

A member of several veterans' organizations, Ator is actively involved with the Veterans in Schools Program, where he gives patriotic seminars and teaches flag etiquette.  He conducts Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs in the local community.

 

Altor graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Tarleton State University in 1977 and retired from ARCO in 1986. Ator and his wife June have been married for more than 50 years, have three children, four grandchildren and reside near Lipan.
