Supporting military and veteran families since 1925

The VFW National Home has provided family support for military and veteran households since 1925. Today, that mission extends across the entire country through our Nationwide Support Program, where we connect veterans and their families with the guidance, resources, programs, and advocacy they need to move forward.

We work with veterans facing a wide range of challenges, including navigating VA benefits, dealing with financial hardship, accessing mental health care, finding resources, and more. Our veteran services team will listen to your situation and connect you with the right support, which could be a local program, a federal benefit you didn’t know you’d earned, or simply someone to talk to.

Guidance, referrals, and support—wherever you call home.

What does military and veteran family support look like at VFW National Home?

Veteran and military families come to us at different points, with different needs, and we meet them where they are. Our goal is simple: make sure no one has to figure it out alone.

We help veterans and their families find a path forward

Many veterans leaving service or facing a sudden life change like the loss of a spouse, a medical discharge, or a financial crisis don’t know where to begin. When you reach out to the VFW National Home, a veteran services expert will listen to your full situation before helping you understand what options are available, which ones apply to your specific circumstances, and what a realistic path forward looks like.

Things might feel uncertain at the moment, but the next step becomes clearer when you have someone in your corner who knows the terrain.

We find the right help or resources for veterans & military families

We’ve spent decades building relationships with the programs that deliver. When you connect with our veteran services team, we draw on that network to match you with resources that fit your specific situation. That can include a mental health provider who specializes in military families, an employment support service, or a financial aid program you didn’t know you were eligible for.

Our team explains what to expect and follows up to make sure your needs are met.

We provide veteran mental health support & benefits advocacy

The transition out of military life, the weight of an injury or illness, and the strain that service puts on a family can be hard to talk about with people who haven’t lived it. Our veteran services team offers a safe space for families to be heard.

Beyond listening, we advocate. If you’re hitting walls with the VA or being overlooked by a program you qualify for, we provide guidance wherever we can and stay involved until you’re in a better place.

Our process for helping military and veteran families get the support they need

Our process is built to get families to the right help quickly. You reach out, we listen, and we get to work finding what actually fits your situation, whether that’s a referral, a benefits question, or just someone to talk through next steps with.

Step 1: You reach out to our veteran services expert

Contact us by phone, text, chat, or email. Many of the families we help aren’t sure exactly what to ask for when they first get in touch, and that’s alright. Just reach out, and we’ll go from there.

Step 2: We listen to your goals or concerns

Our veteran services team will ask questions and make sure they understand your full situation before we point you anywhere. This is important because the right resource for one family isn’t always the right resource for another.

Step 3: We connect you to relevant, helpful resources

Once we understand your situation, we match you with the programs, benefits, and services that fit. This could be a VA benefits claim you haven’t filed, a local housing program, a mental health resource, or something else entirely. We tell you specifically what we think applies to you, why, and what to do next.

Step 4: We follow up and provide help if needed

After we connect you to resources, we check back in to make sure things actually worked: that you got through to the right people and that you’re not stuck somewhere new. If something isn’t working, we help you figure out why and what to do about it.
