In October 2003, the National Home Board of Trustees amended the Homes eligibility statement to include this clause:
Services are also available for children of active-duty military personnel who are not able to provide adequate care for their children through the approved family plan arrangement.
An increased reliance on members of the National Guard and Reserve to compliment the active-duty military has resulted in an increased strain on military families and on local community resources who may not be equipped to serve their needs. It is the mission of the National Home to ensure that the children of our military personnel serving on active-duty as well as our nation's veterans are cared for. This broadening of our eligibility is a natural transition for the Home.
The Military Family Program is designed to provide supportive services to members of the active-duty military, National Guard and Reserves during a period of deployment.
The National Home provides supportive services to the stay-behind spouse and children that assist in maintaining a strong family relationship during the hardship of spousal separation that comes from military deployment.
National Home case managers work with these families in accessing local, state and federal resources. In addition, our professional staff works with the family on the key areas of growth; education, physical and emotional health, financial stability and vocational training. The goal is to increase the overall family stability at the conclusion of the deployment.
Children who enter the Residential Program through the Military Family Program eligibility will be reunited with their parent upon the completion of the service member's deployment.
