A Single Parent Family Program was initially established at the National Home for VFW widows with dependent children, but has grown to encompass other families in crisis. The National Homes resources are available to eligible single-parent families in order to promote growth and development, while offering training, emotional and financial support, in a stable environment.
The National Home can be a preventive resource for families threatened with disintegration because of death, disability or other sources of family disruption. Professional case management staff assists these parents directly to promote a stable family life. The program seeks to prepare both parent and child(ren) to make positive decisions, learn problem solving, and regain their self-confidence.
The National Home offers the opportunity for single parents to enter into goal centered planning to restructure their futures, and those of their dependent children. It is expected that they be productive and contributing citizens, within this time-limited program.
The Single Parent Family Program is an extension and refinement of
the original concept established more than eight decades ago. It incorporates
the nations most unique program with the best knowledge, experience
and staff available. Its strength lies in the deliberate plan to strengthen
the familys natural bonds. Special emphasis is placed on physical
and emotional health, financial planning, behavioral standards, education
and job training, and spiritual growth.
The programs ultimate goal is to provide residents with the confidence that will carry them beyond their stay at the National Home.
