Meet Our 2015-2016 Buddy Poppy Child

My name is Zane and I am 11 years old. I live in the Pennsylvania 3 House at the VFW National Home for Children with my brother, Zack, my sister, Kourtney and my mother, Robyn. I am in the 6th grade and I am on the school Honor Roll. I play on football, basketball and baseball teams and I also enjoy fishing, camping, hiking and building forts ---- I like doing anything outdoors! My goal is to be a Marine or Navy Seal. I am blessed to live at the National Home. I feel comfortable and safe here and I have my own room and don’t have to share with my brother. My mother is working hard so someday we can buy a house of our own. There are tons of kids to play with and lots of room to ride my b


The VFW National Home for Children is celebrating its 90th Anniversary throughout 2015. As part of that celebration, we will be focusing on one decade of the National Home’s history each month. This month, we highlight the 1970's. New Fire Truck A full functioning fire department operated on campus until the late 70's, when new state regulations prevented children from participating in actual fire runs. A new fire truck was acquired in 1975 by collecting 6,600,000 Betty Crocker coupons from all over the country. This huge undertaking included an appeal in the November, 1973 issue of the VFW Auxiliary magazine for help collecting coupons. The new fire truck had 1,000 pounds of pressure, a 75
