Introducing The 2017/2018 Buddy Poppy Child!

We are excited to announce this year's Buddy Poppy Child, thirteen-year-old Isabel! Isabel just finished 7th grade and lives in the Florida House at the National Home with her mother Britani, father, Robert, and three siblings, Celia (14), Robert Jr. (2) and Violet (1). In school, her favorite activities are Social Studies and Gym. "I love always being active!" she says. Isabel enjoys playing volleyball and basketball. She also plays the piano which she is learning at the National Home with her teacher, Rhonda Kennedy. This summer, Isabel raised a pig for 4H named Hampton. 4H Season Wraps up this week at the Eaton County Fair.

Despite the steady thunderstorms rolling through all week, we've had another successful year of 4H at the Eaton County Fair. This year every 4Her showing an animal, chose to show a pig! The animal program requires a significant time commitment. It is a three-month long program. Children are encouraged to go to the farm every day to work with their animal since the amount of time spent with their animal directly affects their success at fair. The usual commitment for a child raising a hog is to go to the farm for chores at least four times per week, with one of those days to include an hour-long meeting. In addition, kids who are raising pigs should get them out every day and walk them. A

F4 Foundation & Friends

Last weekend, a group of special volunteers returned to the National Home to continue a project that began last summer. Owners and employees from Greener Energy Company, Mid-West BetterAir Probiotics, Midwest Fire Safety, Yellow Blue, Great Lake Eco Systems, Consolidated Electric, and F4 Foundation came together to make the National Home's houses more energy efficient. They also worked on other needed projects around the National Home community. Women Serving Women Veterans Annual Retreat at the National Home

Last month, we were so happy to have Women Serving Women Veterans back for their third annual retreat at the National Home. Every year, women veterans from the Greater Metro Detroit area come together to spend a weekend relaxing and spending time in fellowship with other female veterans. They stay in the Guest Lodge in our community and have access to the beautiful grounds, the pond and nature trails. One of the women this year described it as "a self-contained oasis of peace". ​The Michigan based organization seeks to identify and help the over 14,000 female veterans living in the state. These women may be struggling with addiction, homelessness, sexual trauma, PTSD, or joblessness; the m
