National Home Purples Up for Military Kids

Residents and staff of the National Home gathered today to "purple up" in honor of the Month of the Military Child.

Today, nearly two million military-connected children and youth (birth through age 22) live with perpetual challenges presented by frequent moves, parental deployments, and a host of life transitions that include reintegration and dealing with profoundly changed parents. Each April, we recognize the service and sacrifice of these military- and veteran-connected children.

Grit, determination, and perseverance are a few characteristics of the resilient trailblazers we know as military kids. These traits are a result of the challenges they persist through, and contribute to strong character development and hardiness.

The well-being of these young people depends heavily on a network of supportive adults. Sometimes finding that support can be tough. Through our National Military and Veteran Family Helpline and our community of caring, the National Home stands ready to help military and veteran families weather the challenges they face so they grow stronger together.
