The National Home Receives Seven Car Carport!
This month the National Home received a brand new, seven stall carport! This carport will help extend the life of our fleet vehicles by providing much-needed shelter from harsh Michigan winters and hot summer days. A lot of people came together to make this project happen.
It all started back in 2015 when members from Post #3769 of Kentucky visited the National Home as volunteers and worked on several projects, including building a deck by the Scout Cabin. They fell in love with the National Home and wanted to do more, so they asked Facilities Director, Todd Marriot what else they could do to help out the Home and he told them about the need for a carport.
With the help of Department of Kentucky State Commander 2016-17, James Curry, the Post was able to raise funds for labor, travel, and food for the workers who built the carport. VFW Commander-in-Chief, Brian Duffy & VFW Auxiliary National President, Colette Bishop also got on board with a donation to the project.
Special thanks to Commander Nathan Sesco and the members of VFW Post #3769, in Kentucky, VFW District 14 in Kentucky, Heart Truss & Engineering out of Lansing, Michigan, Taylor Metal in Prestonburg, Kentucky, and 84 Lumber out of Williamston, West Virginia for all of their contributions to build the carport. This project was possible because of all of these caring and hardworking individuals and companies. Thank you!
